Installation of PTP from USB or DVD

During the SC11 PTP Tutorial, Here is how to install from the USB drive or DVD that we will have for you to borrow and use:

  • Install "Eclipse IDE for Parallel Application Developers"
    • If you have not already downloaded the tar or zip file from http://eclipse.org/downloads...
      • On the USB/DVD, open the 'eclipse' folder
      • Copy one of the tar/zip files that matches your platform and save it to your machine
        • eclipse-parallel-indigo-SR1-incubation-linux-gtk.tar.gz
        • eclipse-parallel-indigo-SR1-incubation-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz
        • eclipse-parallel-indigo-SR1-incubation-win32.zip
        • eclipse-parallel-indigo-SR1-incubation-win32-x86_64.zip
        • eclipse-parallel-indigo-SR1-incubation-macosx-cocoa.tar.gz
        • eclipse-parallel-indigo-SR1-incubation-macosx-cocoa-x86_64.tar.gz
    • Also copy the update site archive and slides
      • org.eclipse.ptp.repo_5.0.4.201111121445.zip - You can use this (see below how) in case network traffic is a problem installing online
      • ptp-sc11-slides-final.pdf
    • Now please return the USB or DVD for the next person to use
  • Unzip or untar the eclipse-parallel-* file you saved for your platform

To use the update site archive if you need to

  • Help > Install New Software...
  • Instead of selecting the existing update site on page 1-11...
  • Select Add... button to add a new update site
  • On the "Add Repository" dialog select the Archive button
  • Navigate to select the org.eclipse.ptp.repo_5.0.4.201111121445.zip file
  • continue with the instructions on page 1-12: you will be installing from the zip file on your machine instead of from the PTP update site at eclipse.org
