Logistics

Attending: Paul, Oliver, Chris, Joanna, 2 attendees from proposed ComponentBee project

Any objections to last week's summary?

  • No

4.5.2

Joel and Intel China have been going back and forth on the recent build

  • Joel asked if Intel could look at it to try to resolve quickly
  • We want to enter a test pass soon.
  • Bug 260673 has details of the build failure
    • Action item to Chris to try to poke on it a bit and see if we can get build today

The team discussed build failures in general

  • The team decided that now that the China team has been doing builds for a while, they should be ready to start regularly doing more of the build failure analysis too.
    • China team has gotten quite good about getting mail about build failures and bugzillas filed.
    • This is quite good and we believe the team is now experienced enough to consider touching all parts of the build system where there are errors :-)
      • Joel noted that for #260673, when initially trained, the China engineers were told to never touch the file that ended up causing the failure.
    • We can think now, in addition to filing logs, and basic details of the failure the team can examine the logs in detail and outline probable cause and ownership of the problem and experiment more with different parts of the build system.

Joanna raised issue about porting activity (probekit/jvmti profilers to Z series)

  • Bug 259133 contains the proposed patch
    • Team did initial review and patches have been updated and prepared for initial integration. Chris in particular was asked to take one more look
      • Chris calendared time to look at it Wednesday afternoon
      • NOTE: Asaf provided some comments as well.

ComponentBee

ComponentBee folks joined at 10:30. Paul reviewed in more detail the resources on their websites. He wanted to hear more about their long term direction and planned staffing to drive the project into open source. We want to learn more about

  • Specific plan on what to contribute
  • Whether future direction that approximately corresponds to TPTP plans
  • Determine interest levels.

First step would be technology project.

  • Nancy Dai is already a mentor, they are hoping to find an additional one
  • We want to make sure they understand how committership works
  • We want to understand if they are interested in extending/maintaining some core probekit/etc pieces (i.e., will they consume TPTP or grow TPTP itself too?)

Two folks from ComponentBee joined and we discussed these items. We identified a few discussion topics to happen between Paul and the ComponentBee folks

  • Note: Chris stopped taking notes partway thru this discussion nas he was trying to look at the TPTP build issue for Joel... Paul, feel free to add more notes here.

Misc
