BIRT 2.3 Development

No new updates. Development work for M6 is underway, with M6 being scheduled for Public Access on April 15.

General Information

BIRT 2.3 is the next major release of BIRT and part of the Eclipse Ganymede Simultaneous Release. BIRT 2.3 is scheduled to be release in June 2008.

The Development Plan for BIRT 2.3 is available on the Eclipse BIRT Project Development Plan pages. The Milestone schedule for the release is available in the timeline section of the Ganymede project page (BIRT is a "+2" project in this schedule).

For a list of bugs assigned to the release, refer to Bugzilla: BIRT 2.3 Assigned Bugs in Bugzilla.

Bi-Directional Support (BiDi)

No new updates.

General Information

For general background on this contribution, refer to the discussion of IBM's potential contribution of BiDi support in BIRT at the Feb 11, 2008 PMC meeting.

The contribution to the project has been submitted via Bugzilla #22072. It is unclear if this contribution can be rolled into BIRT 2.3 at this stage. However, we will continue to evaluate this as the contribution works its way through the approval process.

EclipseCon

Last week was the highly succesful EclipseCon conference in Santa Clara. The hard-working BIRT team and community was involved in a number of activities ranging from short talks, to long talks, to tutorials. Thanks to everyone for making the event a success!

OpenDocument Format Output from BIRT

At EclipseCon, Santosh Kumar (IBM India Software Labs) gave a presentation and demonstration of a prototype BIRT emitter that outputs a BIRT report to the ODF format. This looked very interesting, especially since this allows BIRT reports to be saved to Google Spreadsheets, Lotus, OpenOffice etc.

This would be a great enhancement to BIRT and Santosh is currently exploring whether this could become a contribution to the project.

Events

Upcoming Events:

IBM Rational Software Development Conference 2008 on June 1-5, 2008 - Walt DisneyWorld Swan and Dolphin Hotel, California - 2 Sessions on BIRT
