Goals

This page describes our intentions regarding to the redesign of PolarSys web page as well as a less radical redesign of content pages. Globally, the main goals are to:

• Keep the general graphical elements of the current PolarSys design
• Use the more space on the page (adopt at least a semi-reactive design that adpats to the width of the screen)
• Emphasize on few important elements like members, solutions, projects, community
• Rework the fonts to have more standard fonts, and better balance/ratio on the content

Persona

See the wikipedia page and this article for more information about the concept of Persona.

• Researcher in system engineering
• Executive who must approve PolarSys membership
• Embedded System developer

Home page redesign

• While keeping the "serious" look given by the graphical elements, adopt a flat design similar to the new Eclipse homepage.
• The list of topics to be promoted are:
  • General PolarSys key points / + outstanding news - For the initial part, we think about using a sort of carousel like on this web site.
  • PolarSys Solutions
  • PolarSys members
  • News, Twitter, Events (maybe in three columns)
  • Mix the current blog with news and have a place for articles
• See this page for design proposals

Article and other content pages

• Add a news/event widget and a twitter widget to get better pages
• Rework the fonts to have a better balance in the page, even with short article.

Review menus

• No need for Home menu option but PolarSys home page should be accessible by clicnking on the logo
• News should be displayed directly on the home page with a link to "more news and events"

Menu bar

• • Getting Started (new name for About as it is a sort of starting point for PolarSys interested people)
  • Projects
  • Innovation (or Research or Technology)
  • Members
  • Community

Highlights ( big logos )

• • Solutions (icon can something like gears)
  • MBSE (icon should be something like squares linked between them - look for UML models in Google)
  • Downloads

Technical issues to be fixed

• Add a link to login to the website for authors, ... without taking a full line of content for that
• Use only icons that are local on the server to avoid missing images like what we have on the current website
• Use simple fonts that are available on all computers and can be easilly reused in Powerpoint templates. Maybe try to use the Eclipse font to establish a link with PolarSys.
