MAßGESCHNEIDERTE IOT-ANWENDUNGEN MIT ECLIPSE IOT, JAVA EE UND VIRTUAL DEVELOPER

CONTRACT BASED DESIGN WITH ECLIPSE ETRICE

The increasing complexity is the biggest problem in the development of today's software systems. Model based design (MBD) and model based testing (MBT) is very important, but often not sufficient to master the complexity. Contract based design (CBD) is the next step. Where MBD is analytical, CBD is synthetical. Contracts specify e.g. functionality, safety, timing and resources for components and their assembly. The resulting system is much simpler to verify through model checking, test generation an generation of bullet proof interfaces. The presentation ends with a demonstration of Eclipse project eTrice and its implementation for some contracts that can be verified with model checking.

ECLIPSE SETUP: CAN IT BE THAT EASY?

ECLIPSE SCOUT: THE FUTURE-PROOF JAVA WEB-FRAMEWORK

Large business applications tend to have life spans of 10 or more years. This is not a good match with the short hype cycle of today's HTML5 frameworks. To avoid costly rewrites or modernization projects, applications need to address the following points: - Choice of a technology platform that is still here in 10 years - Clean separation of user interface technology and business code This session introduces the Eclipse Scout framework that has successfully implemented these aspects over the last 15 years. Specifically, Scout's separation of the business code from the user interface (UI) technology played a major role in being able to avoid the legacy trap and stay technologically up to date. To be independent of UI technologies, Scout defines an UI model and provides rendering components in the form of framework components. Only this rendering component has a dependency of a specific UI technology and is independent of the business code. To be ready for the future, the Scout framework now becomes a plain Java based web framework with a new HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript frontend. The demo part of the session shows some central elements of the Java application model and the theming and styling capabilities of the new HTML5 frontend.

ARE YOU STILL MANUALLY CODING UIS?

User interfaces for business applications often include forms to view and data. Manually coding these forms with a given UI Toolkit is tedious. First such forms are typically subject to constant change. Second there are often many different forms required to comply to a uniform look and feel. In this presentation we will introduce EMFForms an Eclipse-based open-source framework to express forms declaratively and render them for desktop, web or mobile applications.
