This page aims at listing ideas for an integrated demo scenario for JavaOne.

General requirements

  • As discussed with the IoT WG, it would be great to have a common demo scenario that encompasses as many Eclipse IoT projects and relates to WG members' businesses as possible
  • The demo must be tangible, with real hardware on the booth
  • The demo must involve several systems (gateways + sensors, backend, ...) that are able to communicate with each other thanks to MQTT, CoAP, etc.
  • The demo should involve wireless technologies
  • The demo should involve device management

Smart plant monitoring demo

Cross-projects / cross-companies

  • Eclipse Foundation booth has a very simple greenhouse + brochure + slides for explaining the scenario
  • Every project/company has a theme (that can be used for the collateral on the booths, for the companies having a booth) and extends the demo to add its own value
    • BIRT/Actuate = grow orchids. Orchids are very tricky to grow, BIRT allows to provide powerful dashboards to monitor all the vital parameters
    • Kura/Eurotech = grow trees. Monitor soil acidity, humidity, *and* provide wireless connectivity thanks to smart gateways running kura.
  • The data made available by the "main" greenhouse that's on the Eclipse Fdn booth is reused by the other projects/companies on their respective booth
  • OM2M, SmartHome, and Eclipse SCADA could have self-contained demos
  • We should have some OSGi bundles that are exactly the same accross the different demonstrators

Collateral / Goodies

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Several members and projects are already familiar with the scenario, and have implemented variants of the demo, therefore we could re-use more existing stuff
  • Opportunity for cool goodies

Cons

  • The greenhouse demo is definitely not new
