New & Noteworthy for Eclipse Handly 1.5

This release aligns with Eclipse 2020-12.

Java 11 Support

The Eclipse Platform started to require Java 11 since version 4.17 (2020-09). This release ensures that Handly fully supports Java 11 (565978).

Note that, as part of this effort, the minimum Eclipse Platform requirement has changed in this release. Handly 1.5 requires at least Eclipse 4.10 (2018-12). Previously, Eclipse Oxygen (4.7) was sufficient. Also, Xtext Integration component now requires at least Xtext 2.16. Previously, Xtext 2.12 was sufficient. See 567085 for more information.

Handly itself still requires Java 8 at a minimum.

Support for Slow Source Files

Some source file implementations can be unusually slow in building source structure. To avoid blocking the UI thread for unacceptably long time when dealing with such source files, special support has been added both in Core (568993) and in UI (568496).

Other Enhancements

  • Xtext 2.24 is now supported
