As the software for complex ECUs gets more and more complex, so does the build process for that software. Simple makefiles builds are no longer a viable solution - the introduction of model based development, such as AUTOSAR requires build frameworks that are aware of (sub-models). File based dependency analysis is no longer sufficient. Several companies are working to provide their own build frameworks. Within the Automotive Industry Working Group, a new work package (WP 6) has been created to coordinate activites. Initial proposals come from Continental and Robert Bosch GmbH.
