Seems like M4E should be run automatically on an Eclipse server to update the maven.eclipse.org repository as soon as any new release occurs, and then synch the artifacts to maven central through sonatype. Doing that would make M4E itself unnecessary except for internal Eclipse.org use. Almost a year after release and the Eclipse 3.7 artifacts do not yet exist in any publicly available, stable maven repository (much less Central). Personally, I consume the EMF and UML2 artifacts, to load and process models outside of Eclipse.
I like the naming convention for group/artifact/version. It was a subject of some controversy in a previous enhancement request discussion. https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=288644.
