Index View

Is there any way we can get rid of the whole index paradigm for the front page? That's why the search function exists: to let people find pages. It's a little 'un-wiki' to have everything indexed on the front page. Anyone else agree? -051006 djspiewak [at] gmail

I'm going to start working on a way to change the front page up a bit so that it's more wiki. This has really been driving me nuts.  :-) Obviously you can roll things back if you dissagree. Djspiewak.gmail.com 13:40, 23 May 2006 (EDT)

Go for it. --Denis.roy.eclipse.org 10:34, 16 June 2006 (EDT)

Well, I was going to go for it...  :-) I just ran out of time to try. Djspiewak.gmail.com 19:51, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Alright, I've forked the main page to Main Page In Development. I'll be doing all experimentation over there (so as not to screw up the production main page). I probably won't have much time to devote to the effort. Anyone with any ideas is welcome to contribute! Djspiewak.gmail.com 13:03, 30 October 2006 (EST)

Ok, I've got some preliminary ideas going on Main Page In Development. For the moment, I'll procede with where I'm going. If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, insults, I'd appreciate the feedback. Djspiewak.gmail.com 04:10, 15 December 2006 (EST)

I like the ideas you're putting together on the development page - makes a better use of space! --Denis.roy.eclipse.org 08:24, 18 December 2006 (EST)

Any idea when the development page will become the main page? --Denis.roy.eclipse.org 06:34, 12 January 2007 (EST)

Well, I had been doing it in my spare time, not really too interested in it. But since I know you care...  :-) What I need to do is tag all of the pages with category information. There's a lot of pages so I figure it will take me a while, but that's what needs to be done. Once I do that, I'll link the categories from the development page, make sure everything is in sync, and then switch it over to production. Djspiewak.gmail.com 11:40, 12 January 2007 (EST)

Well, I've moved it into production (as you can see). Feel free to revert if you don't like it. The old index is still linked pending all the pages getting categorized - which is frankly far to large of a task for me to undertake alone in my spare time. Djspiewak.gmail.com 19:57, 20 April 2007 (EDT)

Love it! We don't really need a long index of each project anyway. The spirit of Wiki is to simply use the search. Good work, thanks for doing this. --Denis.roy.eclipse.org 20:45, 20 April 2007 (EDT)

MediaWiki Extensions Link

It's interesting stuff, but I don't think it's all that relevant to most people who visit this page. I think we should either remove the link outright or find a better place for it. Thoughts? Djspiewak.gmail.com 14:01, 15 April 2008 (EDT)

New Homepage Look

The eclipse.org homepage has changed its overall LAF to be significantly less colorful and far more subdued. The colors on this page need to be updated accordingly, along with potentially some feel enhancements (rounded corners anyone?). I'll take a crack at it as soon as time allows. Djspiewak.gmail.com 21:39, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok, the basics are in place. I've changed the colors to be a bit less garish, blended things together a bit and added rounded corners everywhere. I think it looks a lot better than what we've currently got, but who am I to judge? Have a look. Djspiewak.gmail.com 23:44, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

New look has been pushed out. Feel free to add complaints here! Djspiewak.gmail.com 16:15, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Where's Indigo?

I was hoping to see some link to Indigo (as a work in progress) on the main page but there's no such a link. How about adding it?

Lock this page

From time to time, some users make inappropriate edits to this page. Changes to the home page are bad because it makes the whole wiki look silly and it causes notifications to be sent to users that have it on their watchlist. On Wikipedia they prevent this kind of abuse (intentional or accidental) by locking the page. I think the same should be done here. If locking the page seems extreme, there are Mediawiki extensions that disable edits by users that aren't in certain authorization groups, haven't contributed enough valid edits, or haven't been a member for a minimum amount of time. --Lance E Sloan 14:52, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

-1. We monitor this page pretty closely and clean up the graffiti pretty quickly. I'd rather not sacrifice community access for occasional inconvenience. -- Wayne

Advantages of Video Conferencing Software

Video conferencing is the interaction between different people just like face to face despite the location. It has helped the multinational companies to have better communication in a more reliable manner. The companies can take decisions quickly and as such, increase their business productivity. With the help of video conferencing, you can share all kinds of information related to research and training.

Those familiar with video conferencing might describe it as a virtual field trip around the world. Video conferencing has the ability to connect consumers, employees and employers and students from around the world. Corporate representatives can use video conferencing to meet with world class experts or business executives in multiple fields, locations and within many different industries to expand their knowledge base, network and improve their strategy and procedures.

Video conferencing makes it easier to conduct business on a world-wide scale and it has many benefits. This actually makes communication interesting for participants at different physical locations by giving them easy entry to high definition sound and enhances video effects in full motion. Video conferencing has made it possible for business owners and people to conduct online meeting, training, seminars etc.

More and more individuals and organisation alike are starting to realise the benefits video conferencing has to offer. Video Conferencing Software can increase a non profit organisations ability to extend knowledge of their programs and engage in outreach efforts. Healthcare providers can use Videoconferencing to communicate with experts in their field from around the world, to solve a new case or come up with new treatment ideas or research areas.
