Definitions for Polarsys release engineering

Component, Packaging, Platform

A component is an Eclipse, Polarsys, or LTS component.

A Polarsys package is an Eclipse platform enriched by a set of Eclipse components and Polarsys components, such as the "Eclipse Modeling Tools" package for Eclipse. A Package contains a consistent set of built and integrated components.

A Polarsys platform is a Polarsys package built for a given purpose. Kinds of Polarsys platform:

  • Polarsys Operational Platform (POP):  this platform integrates certified components and respects a time-based planning.
  • Polarsys Experimental Platform (PEP): this platform integrates validated components; some are already certified.
  • In the future, Polarsys could be declined in other kinds of platforms.

Release, Planning

Polarsys release is a delivered version of a Polarsys package according to a Polarsys release planning.

A Polarsys release planning defines a release number, date, a set of packages with the components that they contain

The POP release planning is aligned on the Eclipse release train (independently of the VLTS releases).
