Minutes

  1. Status Reports
    • Next builds, releases
      • 4.0.6 on Helios Service Release 2 is Feb. 25. Last build is RC4: RC4+2 (our last chance for contribution) is 2/16
      • 5.0.0 on Indigo Simultaneous Release is June 22
        • M5: Repository to test: http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo/
        • Next up: M6+2 is 3/15 (API Freeze) so our build from 3/14 (or prior) will probably be used
        • Re: "API Freeze" that is for platform; we can still change if necessary, but if we change any API we should announce on ptp-dev
      • Parallel Package of 5.0.0 on Indigo
    • Testing plans for coverages of features, platforms
      • Wyatt tests Linux; Chris+team in Toronto test RDT on Windows and Linux.
      • There is a testing page on the wiki at http://wiki.eclipse.org/PTP/testing - Greg will update (and simplify) for 5.0 and post the link on ptp-dev list.
      • Dave Wooton tested PE, LL, will test RC3 after Wed.
      • Note: need testing "as a user" = use the builds posted for the milestones, not your development version built from source.
    • RDT
      • Chris's team did some RDT testing with RemoteTools. found some bugs, others were invalid (user error); RDT's RT function be equivalent to RDT's RSE function now, except for file-based search (depends on RSE). Student looking into some bugs. RT may not terminate builds correctly (child processes)
    • Remote sync
      • 2 extra plugins were checked in for the start of the Remote sync function. Named as part of RDT but this will probably change.
      • John Eblen and Roland Schultz working on initial implementation using git as synchronization mechanism.
      • Issues expected: include files.
      • Photran should be ok - they will add include file lookup
      • RDT parser and preproessors - Chris R had worked on remote-enabling this in the past, see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=177994 which includes a patch - it wasn't completed at the time. Jeff/Photran may be interested. Jeff/Photran team might look at C as well as Fortran for this.
    • Resource Managers
      • much churn here, much refactoring (and removal of unused code, made many APIs internal.) to separate control vs. monitoring. Most of the scalability issues are in the monitoring area. Integrating Juelich LLView work for more scalable monitoring. Control: submit job, job notifications, stdin, stdout, launch debug job. Making good progress.
      • Al Rossi working on Resource Manager Implementation - unified config file.. Shared with monitoring code too.
      • Juelich code does monitoring, data collection, views, plus will probably also have a standalone version of their viewer for monitoring only.
    • PLDT
      • (Beth) extended for IBM proprietary APIs, cleanup/genericize LAPI plugin (simplest PLDT example of assistance features only) for better example to be used for future cloning for new API sets. Beth thinking about possible future PLDT features.
    • ETFw, other tool integrations (GEM, PPW, etc.)
      • ETFw: Wyatt working "slow and steady" on remote-enabling ETFw, plan to focus on it the next couple of weeks.
      • GEM: Alan couldn't attend the call but sent email to ptp-dev with progress info:
        • Below is a summary of recent work on GEM and plans for the near future.
          • Recent GEM commits incorporate:
            • Internal conversion to EFS
            • Addition of the Browser View
            • Enhancements to the GEM Console View
            • Updated help contribution
            • Implemented solution to elegantly terminate long running operations
          • Over the next few weeks, I'll be finishing up remote enabling, testing and committing these additions to CVS HEAD.
      • PPW: no news from Max
    • Photran - Jeff is adding remote sync. support
    • Other PTP contributions
      • Need PTP Logo/icon - no new volunteer artists
  2. PTP User call report - (4th Wednesday 2pm ET) next user call is Wed. Feb 23, 2pm ET, 1pm CT
    • First user call was Jan 26 - 43 people attended at peak; covered PTP installation (client and remote target). Jay will look at Cisco Networking. Dave Hudak (OSU) is planning a classroom workshop.
    • Interest in a future session on Photran - but we probably need more basics first
    • Beth giving PTP tutorial overview at Minnesota Supercomputing Institute next week
  3. Other Business
    • Vote for new committers
    • Anyone going to EclipseCon? Mar 21-24 - Greg and Al might go, and hold a PTP BOF. No PTP presentations were accepted (this was disappointing!)
  4. Meeting adjourned; Next meeting - March 8, 2011
