Agenda

  1. oAW 4.3.1 Release
  2. Pluginbuilder issues
  3. TMF Xtext
  4. Miscalleneous

Minutes

  1. oAW 4.3.1 release
    • Main reasons for this release
      • Refactoring support by GSoC student Steven Reinisch
      • Markus' Graphviz visualization tools
      • XSD adapter
      • Bugfixing
      • Source attachments were missing in oAW 4.3.0
    • Release date
      • No clear release date yet. Oct 31th was once in discussion, also end of November.
      • Main tasks were finished. Mainly testing phase and release activities are to be done.
      • Patrick will announce a release date when he has planned the remaining activities.
    • Status of refactoring support
      • GSoC student Steven Reinisch has mainly finished his work
      • Some code is still in Stevens developer branch and must be merged into the B_v43 branch
      • Sven was not sure if the code is completely stable
      • We will contact Steven and ask him to have some time for bugfixing
      • After testing and when we know if Steven would be able to fix issues we will decide if the refactoring support will make it in the 4.3.1 release
    • Status XSD adapter
      • Is stable, but with known limitations. Forum users report special cases that were not covered yet. Moritz wants to fix them for 4.3.1, but it is not mandatory.
      • XSD adapter runs already in continuous build
      • Package also provides a new XML beautifier based on XSD Infoset
      • Alternative XML beautifier implementation is now available at Fornax. It is basically the implementation oAW had before 4.2, based on JDom.
  1. Pluginbuilder issues
    • Status
      • Build is running, but without Markus' visualization feature
      • When adding the Graphviz feature the build fails
      • Several tests are failing on the build server, but they don't in development environment
  1. TMF Xtext
    • M3 release
      • Release date of M3 is Nov 11th 2008
      • In Kiel main focus is now on getting TMF Xtext ready for M3
      • Until then only few capacity is available, therefore oAW 4.3.1 release is better done after
    • Status
      • Xtext already uses the migrated Xpand and Xtend versions
      • M3 release won't have all end user features that are available in oAW's Xtext
      • Main focus is on a better structure and reliability, features will be added afterwards
      • In M3 Xtext will rely on Antlr runtime, but for the future Antlr should be removed
  1. Miscalleneous
    • oAW in future
      • It is not really clear what oAW will be in the future. Mainly it will be a distribution of modeling frameworks. But maybe this distribution cannot be at Eclipse and remains at Sourceforge.
      • Discussion about where additional features will be hosted
        • within one repo or should every feature component have its own project and repo?
        • Will there be a marketplace?
        • Will we introduce an incubation space?
    • Bernd's activities at SAP
      • SAP thinks for its MOIN project about using Xtext
      • Xtext has some limitations that make it unusable for MOIN. Some new abstraction layers (e.g. exchangable parser technology)
      • Sven argued that those additional indirections were out of scope, e.g. it is intended to not abstract from AST implementations
      • Bernd will have a meeting on Friday to prove in which extend SAP would be willing to get involved into Xtext to form it for SAPs needs. If they decide so it is likely that Bernd would work most of its time for Xtext.

Actions

  1. Patrick will organize the release.
  2. Patrick contacts Steven regarding the refactoring feature
  3. Patrick excludes all failing tests from the server build
  4. Patrick will fix the build including Graphviz feature
  5. Sven's team works on TMF Xtext M3 release
