What is LocationTech Labs?

LocationTech Labs is an incubation facility hosted at GitHub. It is meant for projects that plan to one day host their project at LocationTech, but need a light weight place to get started.

Projects hosted at LocationTech Labs are not LocationTech projects and thus do not receive the same benefits such as IP review, marketing, IT systems, support for code sprints and other events, and other benefits that LocationTech projects enjoy. The facility is organized by community volunteers on a best-efforts basis.

What are the other suggestions/recommendations?

You may decide to bring your project to LocationTech in the future. If so, there are some things you can do when you start your project that will save you time and effort later.

  1. We recommend you use a committer agreement
  2. We recommend you use a license approved for use at LocationTech such as EPL, MIT, BSD, and Apache 2.0.

How do I create my project there?

  • We will set up a web form soon. For now, please contact andrew dot ross at eclipse dot org and include the following:
    • Name and describe your project briefly.
    • State the project's license.
    • The names, emails, and github ids of any project committers.
    • What would you like your repository to be called?
