- Miles Sabin, Chuusai Ltd.. "The Scala IDE for Eclipse: Retrospect and prospect for 2.8.0."
Miles Sabin presents the Scala tooling for Eclipse, it's history, current developments and the roadmap for the next major release and beyond. He also gives some insight into promise and frustrations of monkey-patching support for an alternative JVM language into Eclipse's JDT using AspectJ.
- Paul Gibbons, Diamond Light Source Ltd.
Diamond Light Source is the UK national synchrotron facility. We will demo the Generic Data Acquisition (GDA); originally using a Swing GUI the team at Diamond are working on a replacement using the Eclipse framework. This has led to development of many plugins for performing experiments and analysing results and incorporates the use of third party plugins such as PyDev and Control System Studio. The team aims to release an open source version of the system in November 2009, discussions on collaboration with similar facilities in France, USA and Australia are underway. The demo will also discuss issues about PDE build target development, automated building and testing.
