  • Problem was Apple's "Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?" dialog that blocked a second instance of Eclipse.
  • Part of the solution was a fix in the test framework: We now get screenshots even if the SWT thread is blocked or if SWT is not working at all.

• Conclusions:
  • A Maven/Tycho build could detect compile errors, but can't currently run all tests (since not all tests have been ported to Maven, and some tests need special setup that is hard to port).
  • Building/testing the whole SDK on every single commit wouldn't scale.
  • Nightly builds are good-enough to catch integration problems. It's acceptable to have failing N-builds every once in a while, but those who broke it should reply to the platform-releng-dev list and communicate the bug that covers recovery actions.
  • Ping David to request an extra N-build if you'd like to verify a nontrivial cross-component change, or after recovery commits have been pushed.

• Question that came up in the call: How can I see what version of GTK is used to run the tests during the build?
  • Answer: You can see it in the "Properties »" link at the end of test results for tests that ran in an Eclipse runtime instance. E.g. here, it says: "org.eclipse.swt.internal.gtk.version 2.18.9".
  • These properties also tell other interesting things like the exact VM version, XULRunner path, locale, etc.
  • The gtk.version property does not show up in the swt.tests results because SWT tests need to run with the plain JUnit runner, which fetches these properties at a time when SWT has not been loaded yet.
  • Teams are working on setting up an environment where tests can regularly run under GTK3 as well.

• Can "web app dependency" issue be fixed by making its web app BREE 1.6? bug 457396. (Jetty and org.apache.jasper.glassfish require that anyway.)
• Reminder: This week's M-build is for Luna SR2 RC1. Build schedule has been updated for Luna SR2 and M5 ... there is some overlap, so a few "busy days".
• Architectural question: Should we increase default -Xmx? (See bug 456585) It has been 512m for 5 years. I *think* VMs now "use only what they need", not literally reserving max heap value, like they used to? Anyone know for sure? Or, who to ask? An alternative, interesting approach (at least approximately 2012) some IDEs set the default "mx" more dynamically, based on the memory they find installed on the system (such as 1/4 total RAM -- which user can still override).
• Time to triage Luna SR2 (4.4.2) open bugs?
