• The new WIKI page with Eclipse feature proposals and the WIKI link attached to the N&N page of the milestone

[Daniel R] The main goal of the solution is to promote the development of the release. When someone during the milestone comes up with the idea about some new, interesting feature for Eclipse then they can provide proper entry to the proposed WIKI. The N&N however can have some "new feature proposal available" icon and proper link to the WIKI. The feature has to be provided in the installable form from the external site, i.e. Eclipse Market or Git Hub. When feature is stable enough and accepted by the users it can be merged to the master Git repository.

Additionally the WIKI page and indirectly the N&N one can contain the link to the Bugzilla or blog where the new feature get deeply discussed. When we agree to go with it we have to figure out the way of filtering the craps that can be published from time to time. However I think, we can postpone it till a first crap

What can we achieve by this solution?

• incoming release can be earlier announced by the blog entries dedicated to the new features and it can encourage the new people from the Community for helping with the development of the new release as well as the users for switching to Eclipse as the primary IDE or RCP platform
• new interesting architectural/design changes can be proposed with the features. It will be real prove of concept and not only "raw" idea sent via e-mail
• some really strong Eclipse developers/consultants can find the idea interesting and help with development of the new release
• during implementation of the new feature you have to quite often fix some defects that block the feature or get exposed by it, what indirectly improves the quality of Eclipse
• current solution - announcing the new ideas by mailing list - is not sufficient in my opinion. Some ideas finish with several discussion e-mails. Even when something get implemented it can be forgotten in the moment. Having the persisted list with the feature proposals on WIKI that is connected to N&N page, better visible than the mailing list archive, seems to be better solution in my opinion

• Test results from "Mac" not (initially) collected/summarized for I20140701-0800 bug 438708

- I fixed immediate case, and added more error checking, to (I hope) get better get notified if something goes wrong.

• Up coming priories:

- bug 407775 product definition needs to cleaning uninstall Symbolic links

- Sim release changes/fixes/branching, prep for maintenance and Mars aggregation

- And of course the "performance tests" (FYI, we did lose the GSoC student ... he decided a job would be more rewarding, for some reason. :)

bug 428462 - Do not display build id on splash screen (by default).

• Wrote "wiki" with some notes about "Java 8 Beta builds"

For now we'll leave these builds "on the build machine" but see wiki for locations, if you want to try one out.

One implication (request) is even after I-build completes on Tuesday morning, try to avoid releasing anything new to master/integration (unless required to fix I-build) ... say until 2 or 3 (Eastern) on Tuesday, since after normal I-build (starts at 8) we do a weekly "Y-build" at 1 PM, that's just like the I-build, except we use the new Java 8 JDT Beta Compiler ... the intent being able to compare the two builds.

But, don't let this request slow you down ... if you need to release ... go ahead and release.

• My current priority is getting new Logos/images "in the build" by M6 ... and then will work on running unit tests with Java 8 Early Access VM.

Hope to restart effort in a week or two.

• New "logo images" didn't make it in yet ... expect patches to be coming this week bug 426260

Be sure to comment in bug if you hate them ... once they "in a build" they are "ours".

• ECF changes took more time than expected, but I think "releng" part is done ... now up to p2 and Equinox to finish:

bug 409787 [Tom, I think you need to respond on that bug about "concurrency" bundle.]

bug 419647 Main bug to track p2 and equinox changes (changes to features ... no code changes, per se).

Waiting for answer to bug 426902 (I'd prefer to "move back to SYSTEM" for now.

bug 427242 Had "feature patch" working as well as Tycho will allow on test machine ... but, now won't run on production machine ... still investigating.

• Kepler SR2 RC4 just finished (I think) ... will expect final sign-offs on Thursday. Should only be one new fix. But, I did "clean up" all local caches and re-clone, so sanity check wouldn't hurt.
