Anyware customer wanted Eclipse "update manager" capability to add new services. * Wanted to integrate value-add server (for translating TCF protocol into customer protocol) into the Eclipse IDE ** Use JSON for Marshalling ** Use Serial Port channel and binary communication on back-end ** Want to enable remote access to the target through TCF + value-add * Changes to the framework: ** Prototype sent by E-Mail does not have their custom protocol (only the "public" stuff). ** Lot's of thing have been refactored in order to make it simpler to understand TCF, and add services and communication channels ** TCF class in package "user" is now the only access point for users (it pushes further the concepts of the Protocol class in the original implementation) ** TCFManager is the only class that adds Eclipse dependencies through Extension Points -- easily possible to separate that stuff out === Goals === * Gaetan: See if it's possible to integrate their stuff into mainstream TCF * Martin: Understand what Anyware has done; Clarify requirements; See what could be adopted * Felix: Worried that lot of work is starting from scratch again... goal to merge agenda and find a way that is not starting from scratch === Looking at PPT Docs === * Slide 4 "What we needed to modify" ** "De-couple the notion of communication channel": message dispatching was too much coupled to communication in order to integrate their communication mechanism. ''Felix: Might be a point for improvement''. ** "De-couple the notion of service": Goal was the ability to add servers, providers and value-adds as extension point (Eclipse Update Manager).
