DSDP Packaging Effort
Thank you Martin for putting together this page! It's an excellent overview of what we discussed already and hopefully a good starting point for creating a community around this issue. -Pawel.piech.windriver.com 14:10, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
Interested Parties, who could help out?
I think the key to the success of this effort is to get tool providers (commercial or open source) to invest the time needed to properly integrate their tools with the appropriate Eclipse technology. For example: integrating compilers and linkers with CDT, or providing customized launch configurations to work with specialized debuggers, etc. The Eclipse projects themselves will also need to be responsive to the needs of this community to allow proper integration of these diverse tools. -Pawel.piech.windriver.com 14:10, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
- Hm, but that's beyond an initial one-in-all download to improve first time user experience with DSDP, right? It looks like the DSDP/Package effort has really two very different goals, (a) easy on-boarding with one pre-configured setup, and (b) Better integrating available tools and proving a working environment out of the box even for mish-mash configurations by vendors. Option b is certainly much harder an must be done in a separate second step, IMHO. --User:Martin.Oberhuber.windriver.com 20:15, 6 June 2008 (CET)
- I certainly agree that we need to start somewhere. I would just be rather disappointed if all we we created was a great demo package ;-) -Pawel.piech.windriver.com 16:46, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
What should be in an Eclipse for Embedded Package?
As you later imply, there cannot be a single "Eclipse for Embedded Package". There will need to be many different packages aimed at developing a specific solution. So this section should be names something like "What components should be available for building the Eclipse for Embedded packages", and it should list the non-Eclipse tools as well, but I guess we'll need to build this list as we build the community around this effort. -Pawel.piech.windriver.com 14:10, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
